Varsity Girls Tennis Head Coach
Haertl is entering his 40th year of coaching, with experience at Hamline University (women 1986–1999; men and women 1999–2006), St. Francis (1994–1998), Osseo (2006–2008), Centennial (2009–2023), Coon Rapids (2023–2024), and Maple Grove (2008–present). A former high school and college quarterback who also competed in basketball and track, he transitioned to coaching tennis and has since earned numerous honors, including Section Coach of the Year for Girls Tennis (2021–2024), Boys Section Coach of the Year (2023), and Minnesota Girls High School Coach of the Year (2021). His teams have claimed the 2022 State Consolation Championship and finished 3rd at the 2024 State Championship. He has been married to Kristi for 39 years, and they have a daughter, Mikaela. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar and singing in bands, a passion he has pursued for over 65 years.
Haertl strives to be an asset to his players, learning as much about the game as possible to help them prepare and play their best. He wants his athletes to be proud of how they compete and the effort they give, while fostering respect for themselves, their teammates, their opponents, and their coaches.
